I'm feelin it :-)... Just finished up a 4-hour phone-banking tour in Cary, North Carolina. Wow, that place was just popping with energy. What an incredible place to be just 22 days out from the election.
When I walked in the office at 5:00 pm, there were already 15 or so volunteers making phone calls, and a number of other people entering data. I sat took my call sheets, and the organizer asked me to call up some identified supporters and invite them to some upcoming events:
Event 1: Central Raleigh Office Opening Party on Weds., Oct 15th at 6:00 pm
Event 2: NCSU March to Vote on Thurs., Oct 16th at 12:00 pm (first day of Early Voting!)
Event 3: Early Vote Concert on Friday, Oct 17th at 5:00 pm at the Central Raleigh Office
I spoke with a number of supporters, most of whom were enthusiastic about attending at least one of the events when they could.
When I took a food break at 7:00, I got up and walked around the office for a few minutes. I was amazed. The place had become packed. There were at least 30-40 more volunteers in the place. High school students. College students. African-Americans. Hockey Moms. Latinos. Senior citizens. The place was ALIVE. It gave me the goosebumps. Additionally, there were a steady stream of other folks coming in for yard signs, bumper stickers and just to hang out and chat with other supporters. I had originally planned on leaving at 7, but ended up staying until 9. By the time I finished the night, I had completed a little over 100 dials.
I had a friend ask me tonight why I'm so committed to Obama when it's obvious he can't fix all of our problems. And I told him that belief in Obama doesn't come from what HE can do. It comes from what WE can do. Tonight just reaffirmed my belief in that.
Yes We Can.
